1966 Handbook for Conscientious Objectors Vietnam War Draft Selective Service

Original March 1966 eighth edition, second printing of Handbook for Conscientious Objectors, edited by Arlo Tatum and published by the Central Committee for Conscientious Objectors in Philadelphia. A fascinating piece of Vietnam War era history produced specifically to guide conscientious objectors through the Selective Service system and the consequences of refusing military service. The approximately 110-page handbook covers C.O. classification, civilian work assignments, induction orders, court and criminal prosecution, prison life, conscientious objectors already serving in the Armed Forces, obtaining noncombatant status, discharge procedures, religious belief, use of force and other issues surrounding conscientious objection to war. This March 1966 printing consisted of 15,000 copies. Condition shows its age, with water staining, edge and spine wear and some deterioration around the covers, but the book remains intact, readable and displays well as an original Vietnam-era piece. No significant musty odor remains. An unusual period publication representing the other side of the Vietnam-era military and draft story.
