Original World War II U.S. Army olive drab cotton field cap with visor, manufactured by Shapely Cap Co. and dated June 6, 1944, the day Allied forces landed in Normandy during Operation Overlord. This cap is marked “Cap, Field, Cotton, O.D. with Visor” and retains its original Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot label with Purchase Order No. 11826, Specification P.Q.D. No. 381B, Stock No. 73-C-16030, and pattern date of April 20, 1944. The interior instruction label advising adjustment of the helmet liner over the cap remains intact and legible. Sized 7½, this example features its original olive drab cotton construction, soft visor, and flannel-lined sweatband. The cap is in very good condition with strong color, intact stitching, and only light wrinkling and storage wear consistent with age. While there is no documented provenance connecting this specific cap to a particular soldier or unit, the D-Day contract date gives it a unique and highly desirable historical connection for collectors, reenactors, and students of World War II history.
