This is a well-worn, original U.S. Army fragmentation protective vest, commonly referred to as a flak jacket. Issued in 1988 and manufactured by Jay Dee Militarywear, Inc., this vest was standard issue for ground troops during the late Cold War era and into the Gulf War period. It’s labeled size large, fitting chest sizes 41 to 45 inches, and features the woodland camouflage pattern typical of the 1980s and 90s.
The vest shows heavy field use, with visible fraying, fading, and wear—evidence of real service life. It’s an excellent example for collectors, historical display, or as a gritty addition to a Cold War or Desert Storm impression. The original name “MAC DADDY” is marked in large letters on the inside tag, adding a touch of soldier personalization. This PASGT vest represents the first major step away from Vietnam-era nylon flak vests into Kevlar-based protection systems. It was used throughout the 1980s and 1990s and saw widespread deployment.
