WWII 1945 U.S. Army Canteen Cover, Bates Mfg. Co., Dark Khaki

Original WWII U.S. Army canteen cover manufactured by Bates Mfg. Co. and clearly dated 1945. This is the cover only, with no canteen or cup included. It is a very nice late-war example in the darker khaki shade, rather than the greener olive drab commonly associated with later-war equipment, and has contrasting olive drab webbing on the rear hanger. Because of its coloration, it would also display very well with mid-war field gear. The canvas is in very good used condition, the interior is clean, both Lift-the-Dot style snaps function properly, and the rear hanger is intact. Someone marked “49” on the side in black, likely an old surplus-store price marking, and the soldier identification “H-6559” is handwritten along the bottom. These markings are part of the item’s history and have not been removed. A particularly good original cover for a WWII collection, field gear display, mannequin, living history impression, or reenacting setup.
