Another solid 1930s–1940s era Gillette double edge safety razor, this one with a slightly different construction than typical examples. The handle shows a plated finish, likely nickel over brass, with steel components at the head and guard. The blade guard and top cap appear to be later-war or mid-century production style, with a brighter steel tone compared to earlier all-brass models. This lines up well with Gillette’s transition into mixed-material construction during the late 1930s into WWII.
Condition reflects use but also careful preservation. The handle developed a crack along the barrel at some point in its life, a common issue with these hollow handles. It has been internally reinforced using JB Weld, I bonded the upper and lower sections inside the barrel. This repair does not affect function. The razor still disassembles properly, threads cleanly, and holds tight. Structurally, it is now stable and ready for continued use.
Cosmetically, there is honest wear to the plating and finish, with areas of tarnish and age showing through. Mechanically, it is in very good working condition. For scale, each grid square in the photos measures 1/2 inch.
This is not a collector-grade example, but it is exactly the kind of razor that fits well in a WWII shaving kit and holds up to actual use. Ideal for reenactors, living history setups, or anyone putting together a period-correct impression who wants something authentic and functional rather than pristine.
