Converted Bayonet Knife with Plexiglass Guard and Wood Grips – Possible Mauser Origin

This unique piece began life as a military bayonet but has clearly been modified into a knife, likely for field or personal use after its service life. The pommel design and locking mechanism suggest Mauser-style origins, possibly German or South American—though without manufacturer markings, the exact origin is unknown.

The blade measures just under 12 inches and appears full-length, not cut down. It retains its fuller and has a strong edge. The original bayonet muzzle ring was removed and replaced with a flat plexiglass crossguard. The grips are handmade wood replacements, attached with brass rivets, but they are loose and should be considered more decorative than functional at this point.

This is a fascinating example of surplus re-use and would make a great addition to any collection of trench art, converted blades, or bayonet variants.
