1944 USMC flotation bladder

U.S.M.C. Flotation Bladder.  Firestone Rubber Company.  Dated 1944.  OD canvas outside, rubber inside.  The thing still inflates after all these years.  There is a rubber tube, you blow it up, and fold the tube under the sewn loop to seal it.  Meant as a temporary flotation devise in emergencies.   I don’t fully know its purpose, or when they were issued.  Maybe to troops on transports.  Clearly a cost/space saving strategy in lieu of life jackets I imagine.
